edta na4

EDTA Na4 is a polyamino carboxylic acid and amino acid compound, which has important purpose in many different industries. This is a compound consisting of four sodium ions and one ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) molecule containing carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms.

The Chelation property: One of the primary and most valuable characteristics of Na4 EDTA is that it has a very good ability to form a strong bond with metal ions. (Ilke Iron, Copper & Zinc) These characteristics of EDTA Na4 make them broadly available in various fields, namely medicine, agriculture and industry; which manifests as indispensable to multiple uses.

The possible action mechanism of EDTA Na4 is related to the phenomena like chelating metal ions by carboxylate and amine groups. These particular groups have very high electron density which is related to presence of lone pairs, and thus acting as donor sites for metal ions. The negatively charged carboxylate groups sequester metal ions, while the amine groups will interact by precipitating out any bound or unbound metal that didnt attach to it.

Additionally, EDTA Na4 can complex with metal ions to build structured molecules in which the presence of a single chelation site coordinated for this molecule binds to some metals binding it better also into larger more stable molecule. In analytical chemistry this is a useful property of EDTA, as can be observed in the determination metal ions concentrations. 1; // Andunya
